LIFE GOES ON (ALBUM BY BMX BANDITS)
LIFE GOSE ON (BEER INSPIRED BY BMX BANDITS)
This beer came about as worlds collided. We had just launched the Summer Smash beer and I got a message from my wee brother, Dee. It was a tweet from Duglas. He wanted a can for an ornament. Like Lawrence, Duglas doesn’t take a drink (as we say back in Belfast).
Worlds had collided, I had been a fan of the BMX Bandits since discovering their C86 LP in Dr Robert’s record shop in Belfast in 1990. 1992 was my first year in Liverpool, Shonen Knife & BMX Bandits played a gig in Liverpool Mountford Hall, £5 for a spectacular night of music. I was in love, as well.
Correspondence started with Duglas. A six pack of beers was on their way. The suggestion of a BMX Bandits beer was floated, however it wasn’t until the announcement of the re-release of Life Goes On (originally on Creation Records, this time on Past Nights in Glasgow) that the idea came to fruition.
And fruition is definitely the word. I have always loved the combo of strawberry and lime and maxing our beloved PRACATAN beer with strawberries just made sense. When Duglas mentioned, on a call, that an auntie of his put salt on strawberries the beer was born. It just had to be called Life Gose On (I can never resist a pun).
Next week, in Life Goes On (Part 2) we will have the interview that followed.
Till then,
Love from Carnival,
Ade
